Quote:
Vitamin E acetate found in cannabis vape products used by many patients battling lung disease

I am not a chemist but I wonder if the Tocopheryl Acetate could be an accidental byproduct of the CBD oil+Acetic Acid reaction used by street chemists to make THC .................

Nearly every vaping related illness has been THC based.

In fact making THC lollipops with the THC oil obtained from the reaction is a lot smarter, just not too strong.

The oil is half-proven to be a 'stopper' of cancers to continue growing. Might even shrink a little.

Yeah I also see things shrinking sometimes after having some thc :-)

The point here is that even if thc can be vaporized at the same temperature as nicotine using an unmodified vaping device it is not a good idea to mix some THC oil (of whatever origin) with VG and put it into your vape because there could be other substances in it that can be dangerous for the lungs .... Also buying a ready made vapable THC preparate is probably not a good idea.

It seems like reputable e-liquids don't have issues?

https://www.leafly.com/news/health/toxic-vaping-vapi-evali-lung-injury-rise-and-fall-of-vitamin-e-oil-honey-cut

Quote:
Although Honey Cut never disclosed its secret formula, testing by SC Laboratories in Santa Cruz showed that a 32 oz. bottle of Honey Cut bought off Craigslist in September 2019 contained 90% to 95% pure vitamin E acetate. The remaining portion contained other forms of vitamin E. Tests by New York health officials corroborated the finding.

......................................................................

What made Honey Cut so popular?
Honey Cut took off because it made illicit vape cartridge makers a lot of money. The product fooled consumers into thinking they bought something pure. Honey Cut’s color and thickness closely resemble that of pure THC oil. It’s available online and does not affect the appearance or flavor of THC oil. As such, it fooled consumers performing what’s known as the “bubble test.”

Pure THC extract is a thick amber oil, and traditional THC oil cutting agents thin the oil. In response, customers learned to detect cut oil by flipping over vape cartridges to see how the air bubble moves inside the tank—much like the bubble in a carpenter’s level. A fast-moving bubble means the oil had been thinned with a cutting agent and wouldn’t deliver the high THC potency a consumer desires.

Tocopheryl-acetate defeats the bubble test by cutting THC oil without thinning it. For years, THC oil had been mixed with the common additives propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin, used to allow the oil to flow and contact the vape pen’s heating device. Instead of 10% or 15% propylene glycol cuts, vape cartridge makers could cut THC oil by up to 80%, Honey Cut promised, and consumers would never know.

smoking is not considered to be healthy. vaping organic material is considered to be harmless. vaping industrial material seems to be not a good idea.
legalize the herb and let people grow it just in soil and you will not have to read about how THC did damage someones lung... sigh...

I know it was too long to read:
look at the pic:
https://d3atagt0rnqk7k.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/06154946/honeycut-bottles-vape-lung-disease.jpg

"natural plant based free of pesticides micotoxins microbes and heavy metals food safe formula" -> a lot of people died, not because it wasn't organic but because it was deadly when inhaled (the label say food safe after all)

Apparently vaping organic material isn't necessarily harmless

by organic i meant just dried leaves and flowers. nothing additional. there are vaporizers that work without liquids just vaping the dried material.

Well actually they there's a lot of things that can be done with the leafs ;-) Often street stuff contains lot's of pesticides, fitohormons used to feminize the seeds, maybe heavy metals if the dealer used battery acid to turn CBD into THC (pushers do that since the '70 at least) and make the leafs stronger. Not to mention that a lot people tests positive for cocaine or opiates after smoking some weed, maybe from Albania ....

Unless you grow your own of course. Or got the money to heve the cookies delivered with uber.

i thought the feminized seeds are done with chromosome manipulation where you have XXXX or XXXY instead of XX or XY. is that done through hormones?
erm67 wrote:

yes and that is the reason why it should be legal to plant at least a few for self demand.

there are a lot of products, some are even legal to sell, you will find a lot like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Tiresias-Mist-Feminized-Bottle-Growing/dp/B008OAI6OA

Do you think the growers will throw away the treated plant or sell it to some noob?

10:1 is very improbable. statistics say that it should be 1:1.
once i had a male 3m high which was useless for smoking but after cooking it with butter the effects were delayed long lasting and legendary ;)

Talking about 'jive vegetables' publically could get you thrown out of the horticultural society.
Just something for you guys to consider.

Nope, there are a lot more males in nature, there is a field nearby cultivated with a low thc strain by a local textile industry, maybe e few hectars, and well the females are rare, sometimes I give look at the 3m high plants passing by
They make more money selling the low thc strain than the better strains btw:

BTW cooking it with butter is sooo seventies

people uses butan gas today (liquid CO2 is a bit complicated to handle)

i understood mrbassie expressing a warning that you should not speak in public about minor mista mina. in some countries major.

erm67 wrote:

my only guess is a wicked GM strain that has multiplied the yyyy's in the gender chromosome but still can reproduce (not as with the feminized ones). also males grow taler and that might be wishful for textile industry. longer threads...

erm67 wrote:

cooking with butter is ~4000 years old recipe from India. not everything what is new is also good.

also i doubt that any of those did vape liquids of questionable origin.
