sys-apps/kmscon runs directly on DRM.
sys-boot/plymouth use the same design too.

I think it's good for a simple display manager (slim, sddm) to use this design so that it can get rid of X-server/GTK/QT stuff.

I think wayland is also a layer that can be get rid of.

Display manager runs under wayland needs at least 2 processes: wayland display server (weston for example), and display manager itself.
One process is enough if display manager runs directly on DRM, isn't it?
