I've just bought a new Samsung XPRESS C480FW multifunction printer, and connected it to my router through ethernet with its own specific IP.
With CUPS it proved easy to configure and connect to this printer, just had to download its PPD file.

However, I can't get it to be recognised as a scanner.

In make.conf I have:

Code:
SANE_BACKENDS="net xerox_mfp"

In /etc/sane.d/xerox_mfp.conf I added the scanner network IP (here substituted with X and Y):

Code:
tcp 192.168.X.Y

First line of dll.conf is:

Code:
net

and the rest of the file contains all the other options, including xerox_mfp

At one point I did get the scanner to be seen but the program crashed immediately.

There are installation scripts for a proprietary driver of this scanner, but I would rather see if I can get it to work as a sane scanner availale through the network.

Any suggestions?

You may have to use the samsung linux driver, it looks like sane doesn't completely support that particular model.

Yes, in the end I did so. Everything seems to work perfectly.
