https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-47891737

Quote:
Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange has been arrested at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

Mr Assange took refuge in the embassy seven years ago to avoid extradition to Sweden over a sexual assault case that has since been dropped.

The Met Police said he was arrested for failing to surrender to the court.

Ecuador's president Lenin Moreno said it withdrew Mr Assange's asylum after his repeated violations to international conventions.

But WikiLeaks tweeted that Ecuador had acted illegally in terminating Mr Assange's political asylum "in violation of international law".

Not for all:
Hillary Fans might LOL when remembering Assange was the guy who cool blooded calculated the time frame of the emails leak in 2016

But first of all really sad are journalists who are reporting war crimes . They might rethink their future.
Secondly got sad all the people who will be killed in war crimes, which are not reported any more for obvious reason.

I'm so disgusted right now.

Here's the US indictment of Assange

A news publisher has been indicted for telling the truth, and there are blue check marks on Twitter celebrating this. Fortunately, many on Twitter (right, left, libertarian, and center) are appalled by the news today.

He looked strangely garden gnome like I must admit.

Just needed a red hat.

I'm in agreement with this, but only because of his poor hygiene practices.

Regardless of ones political views he was obviously a terrible "guest" in the embassy. That alone makes me question character. While a guest one should be on the very best behavior.

I do take to account the possibility of disruption of his psyche. One or maybe two rooms, counting the toilet for 10 years or so.
Could make me crazy. (Homer: Don't mind if I do!)

I put him not far behind Roman Polanski, except that Assange outlasted the prosecution. Journalists can commit crimes in pursuit of their profession, and I believe if no crimes were committed, that will be determined accurately.

If you think justice is at ...uhm... it's right here, I am with you. Too many variables for me to ingest it all.
I want to see actual proof before blaming him a #metoo.

Besides all that crime stuff. A rapist being prosecuted seems lame here. :) Give him a pillow-fight with his inmates and get on with his life, shall we?

It's funny that he only became a 'terrible guest' after the change in Ecuadorian government with the crooked Lenin as head of state and government.

Also, the people who had visited him always remarked about how tidy he was. This is a ridiculous charge by a government which Julian had embarrassed.

Obvious defamation is obvious.

And Chelsea Manning is also still in custody to extort a false statement, which should then be used against Assange.
Even though she had already served her sentence! And now as a witness (!) because of the same thing again in insulation adhesive.

And have you heard all the outcry about this huge scandal and crime by all the western politicians?
But there was nothing! Nothing at all!

Here you can see the true Western values!

There is a famous quote from the german painter Max Liebermann by watching the torchlight procession on Adolf Hitler's takeover on January 30, 1933:
"Ich kann nicht so viel fressen, wie ich kotzen möchte." -> I can not eat as much as I want to puke.
That describes my mood here best.

This has nothing to do with "western values" you bigot. It has everything to do with leftist authoritarian values. Something you, the Democratic Party and your butt-buddy Vladimir is very familiar.

Are you German or Russian? Did grandma fuck a KGB agent stationed in GDR? Curious minds want to know.

@Old School: Maybe now would be a good time to drop the personal attacks?

frank9999 wrote:

What I read was that she refused to testify at all. Do you have references of her lawyer indicating that she would testify in her own words, but not a prepared statement?

frank9999 wrote:

So far that seems to be accurate. Though it is interesting why she would not testify to help Assange, unless she's concerned that doing so would be an act of perjury.

What options are there? Untruthful testimony. Truthful testimony, beneficial / detrimental / neutral to Assange's defense The same testimony which would not be detrimental to Manning, or could create new legal concerns for Manning. Am I missing anything? The "not testify" option seems only an issue if there is something detrimental to either Assange or Manning. Maybe if the prosecution agrees to not prosecute Manning further, we'll learn that Assange may have engaged in illegal activities. It seems unlikely that the issue is journalistic reporting of classified documents.

+1

Doesn't matter how technically correct someone is if they're so disgusting nobody can stand to be around them. See also: RMS. Or for most of OTW, a mirror.

The charges are just ridiculous. He didn't have access to the DoD computer, that was Manning. Telling Manning to install BackTrack Linux is not the same as actually hacking into the encrypted files yourself.

I'll be more specific. The issue around journalistic publication of classified material has precedent. And I believe I've read that the indictment isn't related to publication. So if the case isn't about publication, then it would seem to focus on a crime they will try to prove occurred. There have been instances where prosecution refused to publicize details and were essentially forced to drop the case. Given the information released and the recent discovery of federal shenanigans, I think there will be appreciable scrutiny of the case. And while it doesn't determine guilt, Manning not testifying strongly suggests a problem in that area (IMO). At any rate, short of a trial-in-secret, I think a fair trial is in Assange's favor.

No, it is not. But could it be a lesser crime such as "accessory"?

I do think that is what they are trying to nail him with.
