I haven't used this for a few years, but I clearly remember it having some form of GPG/OTR support. However I just installed it and there's a complete lack of any encryption - the whole program feels suspiciously barebones. The website advertises OMEMO too (which I'd expect as a bare minimum for an XMPP program last updated 4 months ago), but I can't find any evidence at all of that existing within the program.

Did Gentoo mispackage this thing?

Upstream itself made the Gentoo package. Did you check the 'extras' USE flag?

Ah. This one only exists in 9999.
