It's technically not a photo, either. The astronomers used radio interferometry from a whole bunch of radio telescopes around the world to gather the data needed to produce a virtual image. Interferometric astronomy is an awesome new technology that's also making exoplanet observations much more direct.

++ It is hella cool! The way I understand it space/time is so distorted that we are witnessing a 360 view of the singularity and surrounding dust cloud.

Without photons, there's nothing to record.

That's why the breaking news was not about the black hole: The disk from behind was photographed the first time! (It is seen above)
But news media keeps saying: The haviest object was take a photo of.

The title causes me to think you believe humans in a previous era have done such things. You're not implying that intentionally are you?

i just don't think this civilization is the top of the humankind's history. there have been civilizations before and ended. who knows what kind of knowledge did get lost.

Have an open mind, shall we!
...I think I could have made an oopsie there.

Anyways, billions of suns in mass, making that little range of eventhorizon (good horrormovie btw). I mean, it's smaller than god's a-hole, Boötes hole.
But, it's massive. So much gas. Call Gazprom now!

the media is fake news... not only has the girl herself refuted what they're saying about her, so are her teammates: https://i.redd.it/kpp7ff9bzpr21.png i'm not bashing her contribution... she verifiably did make some contributions. but the idea that she "invented" or "created" the image or algorithm are fake news false.

Yeah, I saw that too. She's another Greta Thunberg. Used as a tool. Greta doesn't know it though. The only difference.
