|

Hi all.
I'm having an issue that's never happened on previous installs. Maybe I did something differently this time. When I connect to different networks ( I'm using NetworkManager ), I'll get given a hostname via dhcp, like 192-168-1-119.tpgi.com.au. When this happens, I can't launch new apps in X. I have to exit X and restart it. I believe this is an issue with xauth, as I've googled a bit and seen people mentioning it, but not a lot of solutions. But still ... I've had laptops connect to different networks before, and not had this issue. What's going on, and can I make it stop? |

Instead of restarting X, you could just fix your Xauthority file. Dump the contents, fix the hostname, and reload. It would be better just not to change your hostname unnecessarily though. Configure NetworkManager not to update the hostname from DHCP. |
