PostPosted: Wed Mar 13, 2019 9:27 pm    Post subject: Plasma black screen nouveau Reply with quote

Using elogind or consolekit in the default or boot runlevels gives me a black screen, or sometimes the wallpaper when plasma starts up (I'm on OpenRC).

I'm using SDDM as login manager and this displays normally. When in plasma, I can bring up a system activity window using CTRL-ESC and from there launch applications.

Without consolekit or elogind I'm unable to switch users or shutdown the system without typing 'shutdown -h now' in a terminal.

This is an old PC that I've just re-furbished. It uses an nVidia GeForce 7050 on-board graphics chip. Preventing the compositor starting on kde login doesn't help.

In dmesg I get this error:

Code:
plasmashell[2115]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f9a94fbc92d sp 00007fff6e23e2c0 error 4 in nouveau_dri.so[7f9a94e23000+8bb000]

if you are using the latest drivers i would probably try to downgrade or upgrade to some masked nouveau driver.
the same for the mesa package according to this old bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62351
and if everything fails you can still install the nvidia proprietary drivers.
