I am wondering how to enable PDF support within the LO applications. Whenever I try to import an image that is a PDF it says "Image filter not found."

This feature does work on a Debian and Windows box, so it should be possible here.

I do have the pdfimport USE flag enabled:
Code:

app-office/libreoffice

Installed versions:  6.1.5.2(10:47:09 PM 03/07/2019)(bluetooth branding cups dbus eds gstreamer gtk pdfimport -accessibility -coinmp -debug -firebird -googledrive -gtk2 -java -kde -mysql -odk -postgres -test -vlc ELIBC="-FreeBSD" LIBREOFFICE_EXTENSIONS="-nlpsolver -scripting-beanshell -scripting-javascript -wiki-publisher" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python3_6 -python2_7 -python3_4 -python3_5 -python3_7" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_6 -python3_4 -python3_5 -python3_7")

I also have poppler installed.

Code:

app-text/poppler

Installed versions:  0.74.0(0/85)^t(11:53:23 PM 03/07/2019)(cairo cxx introspection jpeg jpeg2k lcms png qt5 tiff utils -cjk -curl -debug -doc -nss)

I'd love to know if anyone has this figured our or any ideas, thanks.

Ok....

I think I see the problem. There is a pdfimport compile flag... I bet that fixes it.

The output of froosh shows that the USE flag pdfimport is set...

I have the same problem. I emerged app-office/libreoffice-6.1.5.2 with USE flag 'pdfimport'.

When I start lowriter, open a new document, go to Insert / Image and select a PDF File, I get the error message: 'Image filter not found'.

As far as i know the PDF import allows you to load a PDF document into LibreOffice Draw (not writer).
Can you try to load a PDF using the File -> Open menu? PDF should also be listed in the list of supported file formats.

The compile flag definitely fixed the issue for me.

Right, though, I do seem to be able to bring in pdf images, provided that the pdf is only 1 page. If it is multiple pages, it seems to only grab the first page.

You do not do this, however, through the import drop-down. Rather, just:

1) Open the pdf in libreoffice
2) Navigate to the 1-page pdf you want to import in your file browser (dolphin, nautilis, whatever)
4) Drag the PDF from your file browser onto the new page.
5) It should import it like any other image.

Not perfect, but pretty good for the price point :)

You are right. I can open and edit a PDF document in LibreOffice Draw using File -> Open. Thanks! :-)

But I cannot insert a PDF document in LibreOffice Draw using Insert -> Image. That results in the error message: 'Image filter not found'.

Is Insert -> Image -> PDF file supposed to work?

@grooveman,

thanks for sharing your trick!

I tried to insert PDF images using Drag and Drop. It works in lodraw. But not in lowriter or localc.

I wonder if it's related to a missing pdfium library?

libreoffice-6.1.5.2/external/pdfium/README wrote:
External package containing pdfium.

"Insert -> Picture -> From File..." uses this library when a PDF file is selected.

We don't have pdfium in the Gentoo tree, have we?
