If one were to compile 1.4b, when 1.4 came out, said person would not have to recompile would they? A simple emerge -u world should suffice?

I would say it would be an idea to recompile everything once GCC 3.2 has been finalised as an official release. Mainly due to the bugfixes they would have put in.
