Hi,

I installed Gentoo, all works fine, I use xfce4 and firefox. I installed adobe flash player for firefox, but when I play videos on youtube, it skips the image or sometimes stops/skips the image of the video; audio plays better.

laptop Acer AspireES1-520

AMD E1-2500 1.4GHz dual core apu with radeon hd 8240.

2gb ddr3 low profile

500gb hdd western digital sata3 5400rpm

realtek audio, ethernet, card reader

atheros bluetooth and wifi

Youtube? Kill the flash. Youtube has been using html5 for a very long time now, and it actually works. Aside from some very shady parts of the web flash is dead.

If that doesn't work, buy more ram. If all you have is 2gb then most browsers are not going to be happy.

The radeon hd which is in the apu uses shared memory, so from 2gb I have something like 1.3gb, but I use xfce4, so.

I forgot to mention that I also use uBlock origin which shows somewhere between 115-220 commercials blocked on single youtube tab. Someimes I have been experiencing computer slow-downs with uBlock origin even on more powerful PCs with multiple (say 20-25) tabs opened.

So did you try removing flash and using html5?

no, I tried to disable uBlock origin which actually was slowing down a bit, but it's probably the html5 that works slow.

No, html5 is much faster and better implemented than flash. Flash is basically a dead format that isn't even really getting security fixes at this point.

I re-installed Gentoo few days ago with firmware's, VIDEO_CARDS in make.conf, and ffmpeg support in firefox (without flash player), and now the videos in youtube play fine with no skips or such things.
