Hi,

I just installed Gentoo on my laptop following the gentoo handbook and using newest gentoo minimal cd x86.

I partitioned the hdd with fdisk, compiled the kernel and installed the grub2 boot loader,

then I did:

Code:
grub-install /dev/sda
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

but when I rebooted the grub2 bootloader shows only:

Code:
grub>

prompt screen. How to I resolve it?

Thanks,

Perhaps installing the kernel would help?

Oh, it looks like I've missed something during the installation. Ok, I'll do it.

If you boot a machine and grub loads, and you get the grub> prompt, this likely means it couldn't find the config file.
Ensure your grub.conf is in the right place...not sure what your disk/mount setup is, so it's hard to tell where it needs to be.

I was tired and sleepy that day when I was installing gentoo. What I know is that I had configured, compiled and installed the kernel, but I am sure that I've forgot to mark the /boot partition with boot flag. Anyway I've missed some hardware options when I was configuring the kernel, so a day after that I had configured and installed from scratch. All works properly now.
