some of us had problems emerging earlier. I had to temporaly turn off gtk from the USE list to get to compile.

Was it good for you?

Well, when I try to emerge the latest mplayer, I get this gem:

!!! ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 163, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

!!! emerge aborting on /usr/portage/media-video/mplayer/mplayer-0.90_pre6-r1.ebuild .

I have gcc versions 2.9.5, 3.0.5, and 3.1.1 installed, so I don't quite know what the problem is... I also used "dvd oss matrox" for the emerge, this has worked for previous builds of mplayer. Anybody else getting this error?

Try:
Code:
MAKEOPTS="" emerge mplayer

mplayer doesn't like simultaneous compiling with 'make -j 2' or above.

well the previous ebuild worked with the default -j2 makeopt so did this occur when you tried emerging mplayer and this fixed it?

Well, MAKEOPTS="" emerge -u mplayer
does nothing to help me out, seems to give me the same error message. I wonder what it could be...

oh yeah, here's a printout of make's death throes:

mplayer.c: In function `main':
mplayer.c:1284: warning: assignment makes pointer from integer without a cast
mplayer.c:1285: warning: assignment makes pointer from integer without a cast
mplayer.c:2695: `dvdnav_stream_change_event_t' undeclared (first use in this function)
mplayer.c:2695: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
mplayer.c:2695: for each function it appears in.)
mplayer.c:2695: `stream_change' undeclared (first use in this function)
mplayer.c:2695: parse error before `)'
mplayer.c:2713: parse error before `)'
make: *** [mplayer.o] Error 1

!!! ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 163, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

Is it just me, or does that look like it's just some sort of a gcc problem?

All I had to dump was -fomit-frame-pointer. Every other flag I used was find and it then compiled on the 2nd try.

Its fcsk'ing annoying that "emerge -u mplayer" wants to install qt libraries when it works perfectly normally without them. I don't want the qt libraries on my system.

mplayer-0.90_pre6-r2.ebuild has been released and it should fix any problems posted here.

Well normally I build mplayer with USE="dvd matrox oss"
that's probably not the preferred way to define extra stuff to enable, but it works for me, normally

well, that's interesting... perhaps you could have USE = "-dvd" and that would avoid compiling the dvd part of it.

or you could just go into the ebuild file itself and add something like --disable-dvd into the ./configure options
