Because there is no real reason to use a live DVD to install Gentoo. The minimal install CD is the standard install iso.

sagsaw,

Welcome to Gentoo.

The DVD is intended to let you test Gentoo without installing it. You are not supposed to install its contents to a HDD.

To install Gentoo, you need only a few tools. Almost any Linux will do.
A 64 bit install requires a 64 bit kernel.
An EFI install requires the ability to boot in EFI mode to write the EFIvars.

The Gentoo installer is you.

It would be nice to have an updated Gentoo DVD demonstrator that uses KDE Plasma 5 rather than KDE 4.

Fitzcarraldo,

The liveDVD is a one man project and I've not seen that one man on IRC for a while.

I do know that the liveDVD is built with catalyst, as is the minimal. It 'just' uses different spec files.
I'm not sure if its all in a public repo or not.

Thank you.

So is there a standar kernel or even that will have to be compiled by scratch?

Also is their support for VIA processors and VX900 chipset and the 2D n 3D graphics?

Can I be able to build a live DVD with a generic kernel or a GENTOO BASED LIVE DISTRO?

Regards,

Sagar

sagsaw,

Idle in #gentoo-ten on freenode. Its quiet there so you need to be there 24/7 but thats where the LiveDVD expertise is.
Also #gentoo-releng may be able to help with more general questions.

Yes, you can repoduce the LiveCD LiveDVD work but I don't know how.
You can cross compile for VIA processors. I don't know the VX900 chipset, so can't comment.

bunder,

I don't think that's the liveDVD that gets discussed in #gentoo-ten

It is a damned shame the LiveDVD is so old. That's all. G'night.

Think I get the why .. just tried installing from minimal cd and it just crashed .. discovered it was 2020. Thought I would look for the "go to" from 2016 when things .. Only discovered it was live dvd after I downloaded. Bring back the minimal stables. Can't say I'm impressed with the discarding of old stuff in portage tree either. git doesn't allow to get packages from old portage trees and some stuff begun go missing. Be careful to just discard everything.

k9dog,

The minimals are auto built about weekly or so for amd64. Other arches vary.

All the old ebuild thats were ever is CVS are still available on line. Either from git or before the git migration, from https://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi
The hard bit is getting old source code.

I just did a test install of Gentoo Xfce on a new box using Gentoo based openrc Calculate Linux instead of Gentoo Install.iso and SystemRescueCd. Worked very well.
