Hey,

I'm just doing a fresh gentoo installation, but now lightdm is not starting, instead it shows a black screen with a blinking cursor.

Code:
# cat /etc/conf.d/xdm
DISPLAYMANAGER="lightdm"

#rc-update show | grep xdm
                  xdm |      default

#rc-update show | grep dbus
                 dbus |      default

Any ideas what might be the problem?

Thanks and best Regards,

Frink

Do you mean X runs great, just lightdm is failing?

Code:
(EE) open /dev/dri/card0: No such file or directory

You need to enable DRI in kernel. Detailed info is in Gentoo Intel Wiki.

I followed the description here and enabled DRI, but still /dev/dri/card0 does not exist. I noticed, that the article recommends kernel >=4.18 for coffee lake, but the one i tried, did not compile.

[EDIT]: If I boot the system-rescue-cd x is running without any problems. But i can not detect the video driver in use.

Finally I found the solution: I had to delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf and now lightdm starts, but cinnamon runs in software rendering mode (see here) and startx is still not working.
