The font sizes on my laptop screen get larger when I connect an external monitor to laptop.
How do I handle the DPI settings such that, I want to retain the font size on my laptop screen even when an external monitor is not connected, and also not mess up the font size on my external monitor?

If your Laptop uses a NVIDIA Card, you can use this in your Device Section
Code:

        Option   "UseEdidDpi"   "FALSE"
        Option   "DPI"   "96 x 96"

For all opensource drivers you have to search yourself for the correct Options
