I've never been a playstation fan, but this is interesting: Quote: | Playstation 3 CPU Almost Finished?

from the more-polys-means-more-grand-theft-auto dept.
dnxthx writes "According to this ZDNet article the design of the Playstation 3 chip is nearly complete. The PS3 chip will have near "supercomputer capabilities" --- including 1 TFLOP. Reportedly, this chip is being engineered with Linux in mind." |
From Slashdot.
I thought the part about the chip being engineered with Linux in mind was interesting. _________________ I can saw a woman in two, but you won't want to look in the box when I'm through.

Yeah I saw a little snip (called "The Cell") over at littlewhitedog that says this thing is supposed to ROCK. I don't own any gaming consoles, but if these specs are right I might just consider this baby a workstation class computer!
Only time will tell, eh?

Amen to that. I remember one of my friends telling me (a few years ago) how the PlayStation 2 was able to create movie-quality CGI in realtime. Of course, I told him off, and was later proven right shortly after the release of the PS2 what with all the sharp polygonal edges, less-than-great texturing, less-than-great lighting, etc. (Compared to both movies and my computer, that is.) He promptly shut up, but now he's touting the PS3. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

Considering the hardware used to render movie quality animation, not even Sony could afford to slap such a processor into a 'gaming' system. _________________ I can saw a woman in two, but you won't want to look in the box when I'm through.

Espically considering that most times they loose money selling the consoles. |
