|
|
After booting the first time after install (and all subsequent times) I get to grub and select Gentoo.
I then get the following:
Booting command-list
root (hd0,0)
filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/bzImage root=/dev/hdc3
Error 15: File not found
Press Any Key to Continue...
Presisng a key returns to the GRUB menu.
I'm not sure what's going on.
I have gentoo installed on the Secondary Master (hdc). There is currently no primary master (my IBM 60GXP melted).
to install grub I had to:
root (hd0,0)
typing hd2,0 said the disk did not exist.
so in menu.lst I put root (hd0,0), which doesn't technically correspond to the correct location, which should be hd2,0.
Booting gives the error above. Any ideas?
thanks.

i've noticed after ooting back to the install cd and looking around that
/dev/hdc1 (my /boot) has no "bzImage"
the grub command is
Code: | kernel /boot/bzImage root=/dev/hdc3 |
/boot contains the following:
boot
grub
lost+found
I suspect this https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=764 topic is the same issue. I've tried everything in this thread (save the lilo stuff) to no avail. |

Hmm... You forgot to Code: | # cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot

Yeah just boot from the cd mount your partitions and follow the initial steps to compile your kernel again. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

Same problem for me! Funny thing is.. I know I didn't forget to copy those files to /boot. But, I will repeat the steps over as well.
I'm glad this topic was already posted and that I can get gentoo to work. That was pretty frustrating after going through the whole install process not being able to boot! |
