|
|
Hi,
Sometimes my computer is frozen for a few seconds (it can vary a lot between 1 and around 10-15 seconds) after waking up from suspend. When frozen, the monitor is working (i.e. I can see what I saw before suspending, but it doesn't show any changes until it comes out of the freeze), but everything else seems to be stopped.
After the freeze everything works normally, and everything I did during it has its effect, so e.g. if I was typing 'foo' when it was frozen nothing happened, but after its end, 'foo' would be typed.
This doesn't happen after hibernating (at least I haven't experienced it).
The onset is seemingly random (I couldn't find a pattern in when it froze and when it did not), though usually directly after boot there is no freeze with the first suspend.
Here are the respective parts of dmesg:
With freeze:

ata2 doesn't come up. That's probably /dev/sdb? When you have no freeze, your ata2 is up before ata1 is even finished, but in the freeze log you have: Code: | [ 1078.962532] ata2: link is slow to respond, please be patient (ready=0)
[ 1083.642528] ata2: COMRESET failed (errno=-16)
[ 1088.995561] ata2: link is slow to respond, please be patient (ready=0)
[ 1089.983533] ata2: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300) | There is your 11 seconds freeze.
I'd check the drive with smartctl, and if it is a desktop, the cabling as well.
Just came to my mind: Is ata2 (/dev/sdb) a DVD writer or something like that? And if so, is it empty when you experience the freeze? _________________ Important German:- "Aha" - German reaction to pretend that you are really interested while giving no f*ck.

The computer is a laptop, and originally there was a DVD / CD drive in the place of /dev/sdb, but currently there is an SSD (ADATA SX930 240 GB) there.
A long test and a short test run by smartctl both return PASSED for the drive (though both take only one minute).
There are some errors (starting on line 138) in the output of smartctl -s on -x /dev/sdb:
