Steam doesn't want to launch most of my games

Hello all,

For as long as i can remember with Gentoo, there had been a bulk of games in my library that simply wouldn't launch, no matter the runtime options I put in place.
Here's a few of what i'd like to run;
--Hollow Knight
--Mother Russia Bleeds
--One More Dungeon
--Wizard of legend
--Slash or die 2

Every time I hit play, it shows the loading dialog, flashes the screen for a bit, and then kills itself with the following output in terminal:

I installed steam in the wiki using the 'manual' method, where you just use wget, cd into the steam directory and then run it, and it's worked fine with Source games like TF2
However, i'm starting to suspect it might be dependancy related per https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Steam#Dependencies , but it seems to work fine without that list.

Should I go through Porthole and install every dependancy on the list, in hopes that MAYBE these games won't crash and burn?

I'm debating on straight instaliing the windows-steam client under wine for these games since it's not like Steam lets a user try Linux port >> Windows under the steam play option, in addition to my listed games having Linux ports.

I don't know if all those games listed are made with Unity, but that log you provided says one game is.
You should probably check /home/starrcade/.config/unity3d/Team Cherry/Hollow Knight/Player.log and see if it says something useful.

Anyway, I have trouble running Unity games, rarely one works, don't know why though.

So I checked the player.log files and here's what's actually happening between all of these games;

It's not runtime, it's OpenGL. They're asking for 3.2, My laptop is 2.1.

Goddamnit

Is there a way I can spoof it?

You can try

MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.3 glxinfo


that will show opengl version 3.3

Instead of glxinfo you can try with the game you want to run.
You can do that in launch options for each game in steam.

How do i set this up in launch options? Whenever i paste the command in to Hollow knight and other games it's still doing the same thing even
after i get rid of GLXInfo. Could i just restart steam afterwards?

I tried glxinfo and that worked.

Wizard of legend went to fullscreen and froze my entire system, I had to open the only other TTY i had to restart the system

Mother Russia Bleeds opened a window and did nothing
Slash or Die 2 showed a blank screen
One More Dungeon showed a brief window with a cursor and then killed itself, produced its usual error.

Well, I tried and it really works.

So, you start steam normally and for each game you have to add launch options.
Right click the game, then click Properties and then click on 'set launch options'
Then put this and click OK

MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.3 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=330 %command%


Keep in mind that this only works for games where in the error log you see that OpenGL version is the problem.

Oh, TF2 actually runs, but I had to get s3tc on my machine as well or else the graphics were fucked

Oh, TF2 actually runs, but I had to get s3tc on my machine as well or else the graphics were fucked


Forgot to tell you back then, if the graphics are fucked you can use

MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.3 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=200 %command%


So, same as before but you change 330 to 200
That helped me, some games had fucked up font menu etc.
This solved it.
