I do not understand this warning message
Code: | * Messages for package media-libs/mesa-18.2.4:
* Ignoring USE=vaapi since VIDEO_CARDS does not contain r600, radeonsi, or nouveau
|
I have Intel integrated graphics on my laptop. Why does vaapi not work?

The mesa VAAPI driver is a Gallium state tracker, and Intel does not use Gallium. You need to install x11-libs/libva with the correct VIDEO_CARDS set instead. |

However intel is supplying its own vaapi implementation in
intel-vaapi-driver
there is also masked intel-vaapi-media-driver which supposed to be a newer reincarnation, but according to https://01.org
where all intel development is focused intel-vaapi-driver is still updated to modern GPU's (I did not read all the details careful enough, in one place
it said that it stopped at gen 5 intel chips, but then in change log updates are going for all modern and future architectures)
As a note, intel-vaapi-driver will require 'intel' VIDEO_CARDS option set for libdrm. intel-vaapi-media-drivers does not use libdrm and VIDEO_CARDS setting is not used. |
