|
|
Hi All,
I have an external USB sound card ,2i2 FR Second Gen.
This card seems to be working on Linux, because i can see the volume metering in Pavucontrol moving while audio is playing.
The problem is ,Audio is always muted on my headphone,
I don't have any Monitors, so i plugged my headphone into the Monitor jack output on the back ,L or R , still no sound.
I Scanned Audiodef site for hints and has been messaging Him for clues ( thanks audiodef ), but still no luck.
I see this error whem the system boots up
Code: |
alsactl: set_control:1461: Cannot write control '2:0:0:USB Internal Validity:0': Operation not permitted
|
Audiodef hinted that he does not have pulse, so i removed my global pulseaudio flag , same issue ( only have pulse on for Firefox ).
I also changed all sound options in the kernel as loadable modules.
I use Volumeicon, when the External USB card is plugged in, it does not start up, maybe not relevant , but just mentioning it here.
F6 selects the Card in alsamixer, what i see is this.
Code: |
USB Internal Validity
|
But cant unmute the card, there are no sliders available.
Similar Behaviour happens on Windows, Card starts muted, for unknown reason, reconnecting the card fix this on windows.
On Linux this trick does not work.
Output Aplay -L
Code: | $ aplay -L
null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)

My Solution for this card ( Focusrite 2i2 on Linux).
I have an external Hdd usb drive connector kit.
Hooked up My old Windows 10 drive to it,
My main drive on this Laptop runs Gentoo, the external windows 10.
Went over to the Focusrite website and downloaded and installed their latest driver for the Card.
Played around in the Daws i got installed on Windows 10.
Rebooted in to Gentoo , and the Card just works.
On Linux i have tested the Card running Reaper native Linux version.
Normal Gentoo-Sources kernel ( no rt )
Jack.
Seems to behave the same as on Windows 10,
Disconnecting the Card and reconnecting it on Linux wil cause the Card to shutdown, no sound.
So i need to boot into W10, reconnect the card and reboot into Linux for sound to work.
Not ideal.
But at least it works.
Cheers.

I had a similar problem with a totally unrelated USB device though. I installed Windoze VM using Virtualbox just to configure the hardware so I didn't have to do reboots all day
Installing the drivers in the VM was no problem once the device got assigned to the VM.
Other things you could try:
- turn fastboot off
- unplug the device before you start the PC, plug it in when it's booted up completely, see if it behaves differently.
Unfortunately Focusrite doesn't support Linux, good luck... |

Thanks gorg86 for this Tip, I think it's the only solution if i keep using this card.

Tried it , i even changed the special way my HP BIOS boots up USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 mode, issue remains.

Unfortunately yes, Some got this card working on Linux without reboots to W10, and Others did not, so it must be due to some Firmware Update on the Card i think.
Thanks anyway.
Cheers
