Excuse me for this topic but i am beginner in Gentoo.
I have PC with AMD Radeon RX560 videocard and monitor that has only VGA connector and connected to videocard with HDMI-VGA adapter. I install Gentoo on my PC then install XFCE but when i try to start xfce with startxfce4 command i got next error message:
Quote:
Fatal server error:
[ 50.433] (EE) no screens found(EE)
[ 50.433] (EE)
Please consult the The X.Org Foundations support
at http://wiki.x.org
for help.

Then I check my video card driver with command lspci | grep VGA and get next output:
Quote:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Baffin
[Radeon RX 560] (rev cf)

Then i install xrandr to check screen and get next output:
Quote:
Can't open display

After this I read forum and found solution for NVIDIA cards but not for AMD. Now I have no idea how solve this problem.

Maybe my make.conf file will be usefull:
Quote:
CFLAGS="-march=ivybridge -mno-avx -mno-aes -mno-rdrnd -O2 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
PORTDIR="/usr/portage"
DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles"
PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages"
LC_MESSAGES=C
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/gentoo/ rsync://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/gentoo/"
USE="apm cgi cvs djvu -dvd -dvdr -emboss ffmpeg -fortran git hddtemp -ipv6 jack javascript joystick jpeg lame lm_sensors matroska modules -multilib -pam quicktime sound sqlite svga vcd"
VIDEO_CARDS="amdgpu radeonsi"
INPUT_DEVICES="libinput keyboard mouse"
ALSA_CARDS="hda-intel"

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

with this https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/AMDGPU you should be able to bring your videocard up and running

But I have seen you have at least two useflags missing in your USE section

X xorg is missing. you have to add this both flags and then do
Code:
emerge -uDN world

No the HDMI Monitor should not be a problem but as described before you need to add the useflags.

I add two USE flags X and xorg to make.conf then i write command emerge -uDN world but nothing happends. Output here:
Quote:
Calculating dependencies... done!
>>> Auto-cleaning packages...

>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.

Then i try this emerge --ask --update --newuse --deep @world but get this:
Quote:
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

Nothing to merge; quitting.

Posible this flags is default flags in eselect desktop profile.

Oh yes ok could be. I normally use the standard profile and no desktop profile so i have to define all flags myself.

what happens if you do a
Code:
modprobe amdgpu

do you have error / warning?
normally this should be done automagically by the kernel but if the module is missing or not correct implemented with the firmware in kernel it can't be loaded

also have a look at
Code:
dmesg

there could you see some useful informations about your card after a unsuccessfull start

You can post full /var/log/Xorg.0.log with wgetpaste and also output of grep CONFIG_DRM /usr/src/linux/.config command?
