I have had a such a long time with errors to emerge vlc.
Finally I had to check wazz up!???

I went in to the build. Did a check with ./config. Found out that I had not the appropriate component. (lua).
So I emerged the one - Or so I thought.
Later errors, through emerge process, I found out I missed another component/atom.

So I emerged that one. Now, I thought, I am out of the woods...(time will tell, in the process)

To just summarize, summarum : I think I did have more faith in `emerge --depclean`than I should.
Step 1....
In conclusion : emerge does not find the packages necessary to withhold the integrity of vlc. EVEN with ./configure WARNING of crucial components missing.

Are you all lazy?

I did not need to. The system was all bugs. I cannot make that claim without being a cybercracker, unfolding RHC's mailserver.
And in the process being called a misogynist.
EDIT : And now I've found out there are ~ packages necessary to compile a 'stable' vlc. Very nice, guys.

Come back when you remember which package(s) you had to add, otherwise this is going nowhere...

Lazy, nope this is going nowhere. I did try to give people otherwise a hint how to deal with the sloppy coding of emerge.
BTW - Again, ~packages on a stable one (vlc -0.10.1) stable.

I can see a beisserweisser in you. :)
I try to switch suit and get rid of vlc.
BTW, eix vlc shows 0.10.1 as stable in my tree

So this is wrong?

So, which packages did you have to install? And which unstable packages did you think you had to install? It is probably just a case of overzealous portage autounmask (again).

I had to install lua and lib52<unknown name right now>
Then it was this ~liba* and then when I got enough. Deinstalled openoffice, which was the only dependency to vlc I had with vlc in the emerge -C.

lua is pulled in by media-video/vlc[lua], it is optional.
Maybe you mean a52dec, this is pulled in by media-video/vlc[a52], again optional.

You can look up whatever "~liba*" may have been in your emerge.log.

...altivec lib.

It was not. (lua). Nothing. I had to make that ./config in the vlc work folder.
EDIT altivec lib is _not_ a package of any sort according to eix

Where does it belong, if I might ask? It's not even a + on that one. It's a PPC4,5. LOL!

Obviously an old vax...

Code:

Add support for optimizations for G4 and G5/ppc970 processors

It was in the compilelog. I have never had this error, but with the vlc.. Never.

Oh, you are so smart. Use that to conclude why CFLAGS="-march=native..."
USE[a]=aac accessibility acpi alsa apache2 apng authlib auto-hinter autoipd avahi
But...vlc - oh shit the most used package since bash.

EDIT: Someone should check that ebuild. I cannot see that check fall out well...I have over 1000 packages, thank you progression. NONE but vlc is needed of PPC packages. No matter my wrong doing anywhere in the gentoo-environment I've got, ppc should never, never...ever happen.
