Have you noticed an increase in the above activity in your respective areas ?

Old JB has, the city centre has 'em.

Left the gym this morning, a bit sweaty - in me sweatband, crop top and short-shorts (just so you get the picture) and had somebody soliciting me.

Last week was approached, "I have a hospital appointment and I don't have any money" (it was 4:45 am).

I'm in the suburbs, so never close to home. But downtown, at the beach, or in Waikiki it is rampant.

Homeless in other states are sometimes given a one way plane ticket to Hawaii by those states/cities that want to get rid of them, plus we have a bunch of Micronesian and Polynesians who come here to more or less live off of the generous welfare and begging.

Also, when I smoked people constantly tried begging cigarettes. Asking for an "extra cigarette", sorry, the pack comes with 20, not 21. There is no extra.

Yep. Been increasing since the end of the Carter Administration, when they relaxed the rules for institutionalizing the mentally ill.

We call them Bears, as in: "Do not feed the bears."

Not in my geographic area, but I've noticed a massive increase in American abject poverty in the last few years.

Well now that I know what triggers JB, I just need to find out which gym and what time and camp outside like a hobo with a bottle of white lightning

There is a crowd/group that lives under a footbridge near my house. One guy has lived there begging on the corner for nearly a decade. That's not "hard times" that is a life choice. He eats better than I do with pretty high end carry-out.

Yes. First came pawnshops. Next was panhandlers. Such a great economy. BTW, that remark wasn't political. This stuff started three years ago (I've lived in this town for thirty years) and it's growing.

And another one, old JB's on holiday and I happened to be browsing a well known hardware store.

Somebody shuffles up to me - "needy look" and asks for bus fare.

I can live with that - don't take my short-shorts.

Man up and set yourself - FREE. :)

If nothing has not been said yet, I am sorry if you think of yourself as a teen-aged. That was not my intent. I know these mishaps happen in some cultures.
