I completed a 32 bit x86 install with X, however certain applications within X (specifically firefox and vivaldi) do not appear to be properly using video acceleration as their performance is bad. Despite this, I am able to play back full HD video in mplayer without any lagging.

emerge --pretend -v x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Also, I am using enlightenment.

That sounds normal, on an old i915 there's no hardware acceleration for web video formats. mplayer is probably using high CPU usage to play those, but gets away with it because it's not as inefficient as playing through the browser.
For better results, you could try using youtube-dl to play videos from webpages (mpv has it built in, I don't know about mplayer). |

Thanks for the help. You were correct, I just figured it out today. I did a complete driver reinstall with the best options that I could find. Despite that, when playing HD video in firefox, the framerate was low, and the GPU and CPU were both running at max. I was trying to see how far I could push an old Mac Mini I had sitting around. I guess I shouldn't be that surprised; the latest opengl version that the graphics chip supports is 1.4. |
