Both Google-Chrome and FireFox won't play video content (specifically youtube, gifs are working).
I get a spinning icon and an eventual "if video doesn't start restart your device" or what ever from chrome.
I've tried the clear the cache trick and the hardware acceleration disable. I made sure my nvidia driver is working with open gl.
Youtube fails in incognito mode as well as main mode so it doesn't seem to be related to plugins.
This worked last week, but I'm at a loss as to what to try next...
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Update: I can click in the video scroll bar and change position in the video. On some kinds of videos, my picture preview plugin shows the video, but if I click on play the video is frozen. I've tried adjusting my nvidia settings to move the vsync from one monitor to the other and disabled vsync and G-Sync. Still no dice. _________________ Some day there will only be free software. |

The issue turned out to be a pulseaudio issue.
Without any working audio, the browser video was hanging.
It is a real trick to get alsa working with pulse and visa versa.
The trick is to tell pulse to use alsa as the output device and tell alsa to use pulse as the output device... Seems stupid doesn't it?
Here's the magic .asoundrc that makes it all work for me. (except for the random failures my media PC suffers where sound stops for a bit after mplayer exits.)
Code: | pcm.!default pulse
ctl.!default pulse |
