|
|
I previously asked here if I can install Gentoo in a Virtual Box before installing on the main system and many said yes. Since then I tried to install Gentoo in a Virtual Box but I'm not able to get past the point where I have to use "parted" to create partition. When I type the parted command shown in the handbook, I'm being shown an error that it is not recognized. As I was Fedora back then, I left the installation of Gentoo, even now I'm using Fedora but I'm being hacked, someone is randomly changing the audio balance of my Fedora to left side, this has happened so many times in the past few weeks and randomly that I want to switch to a more secure Linux. So I'm thinking of using Gentoo but I'm still facing the same problem with "parted command".
What should I do? |

What live disc are you using?
I recommend Systemrescuecd.
If parted is availaible, then you have to use fdisk. |

parted is on the latest Minimal Install CD and also part of SystemRescueCD, which I also recommend. As Keruskerfuerst has noteed, it would be useful to know which install CD you were trying to use.

I'm using this version "livedvd-amd64-multilib-20160704.iso", in the live environment, I'm shown something like bash: parted command not found. |

See how old that LiveDVD is? 2016 is practically paleolithic.
Back then the Handbook used fdisk, which is available. The problem with the LiveDVD is that it's an occasional community project release and, in this case, hasn't kept up with the evolution of the Handbook. Easiest thing for you to do is to use SystemRescueCd, which does have a live GUI environment available, and does have parted.

Presently I'm running Gentoo live environment in Virtual Box, do you recommend I download SystemRescueCD and load it up in the Gentoo vitalization and use parted from it and use GUI partitioning tool and install or download a new Minimal Installation CD of Gentoo and follow the instructions from the handbook? Thanks |

SystemRescueCd is Gentoo-based and works perfectly well as installation media. What I'm recommending is that you start SystemRescueCd and complete your entire Handbook-based installation with it.
