hi,

i am using now the hauppauge wintv hvr 5525 tv-card for quite some time now with recent vlc 3.x. i have tested extensivly the dvb-s2 receiver and after my move to upper franconia area the dvb-c receiver of the card.

i can report with joy that this multifuntional pci express tv-card works perfectly in recent linux kernels (4.18.8 too ;) for guys still looking for a universal tv-card i can give a definitve buy recommendation...

my problem is the needed 2 firmware files to use this card in linux are NOT part of the official linux-firmware tree, so who to ask that the needed firmware files become a permanent part of a future linux-firmware package?

i looked in gentoos faq and kernel.org faq and still dont know who to ask... :?:

That does not make the files part of the firmware package, so no one else would benefit from his discovery. He wants it added to the linux-firmware package so that the next person can update linux-firmware, rebuild, and have everything work without special investigation or modification.

You should file a request on Gentoo Bugzilla. https://bugs.gentoo.org/

do some gentoo developers have write access to the official linux firmware git archive? then it would be only a licensing question to integrate legaly the firmware there ...

link to the official linux firmware repository:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git

until the i open a enhancement bugreport to the sys-kernel/linux-firmware package...

CASE CLOSED...

i add solved to the threads title...

thank you guys for the help
