I'm new to Gentoo and would like to print a copy of the Handbook for easy reading through before beginning the actual install. Does a PDF of the complete Handbook exist? If so, where can I download it? (I see the option for "Printable Version" on the Handbook wiki page, but that's just for the one page). Thanks in advance.

Thanks LuxJux. Now I see how you got there -- my eyes glazed over the section links in the sidebar. Exactly what I'm looking for.

At the bottom of that Gentoo Wiki page it states:

Quote:
This page was last modified on 4 January 2015, at 15:16.

but near the top of the page it states:

Quote:
As of August 23, 2018 the official Minimal CDs are capable of booting in UEFI mode. Previous versions boot in BIOS (MBR) mode only. Readers looking to make their system UEFI bootable must download the latest ISO.

The Wiki authors were powerful psychics and knew exactly when release engineering would add support for UEFI.

Very droll, but actually the discrepancy does raise an important point: How is the reader to know when something has been changed somewhere in that lengthy document?

My first response was to suggest using the Wiki's history features to track page edits. However, while tracking down exactly what that would mean, I found the real explanation for the answer to your question. The source of the page you were reading has not changed recently, but it doesn't need to have changed, because that source is just Wiki markup that includes (which the wiki calls "transcluding") other pages. It has no timely content of its own, and is useful only because it causes the other pages to be pulled in and made available in a single, larger document. The included page is what was changed to contain the statement you referenced, but the modification time on that included page did not affect the date stamp you quoted. If you review the corresponding date stamp on the page which actually hosts the text, the Wiki correctly tells you it was edited recently. The catch is finding that content page, then doing that recursively for every place that a concatenation page includes content pages. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:Parts/Installation/Media is the page which actually stores the text you cited. It was included by https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Installation/Media, which was in turn included by https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Full/Installation.
