llvm 5.0.2 is installed on my systems and seems to be functioning fine.

Recently, any "emerge -vuDN world" I do on multiple machines is pulling in llvm 6.0.1 alongside of 5.0.2. However, when I do an "emerge --depclean", llvm 6.0.1 is then uninstalled - only to be reinstalled on the next "emerge -vuDN world".

mesa seems to be pulling in llvm 6.0.1 but not sure why:

Code:
peter@betelgeuse ~ $ equery depends llvm

Is there a USE flag that I have set somewhere that may be causing this? It is happening across multiple systems that essentially have the same USE flags.

Code:
peter@betelgeuse ~ $ emerge --info

After reading through some older threads about mesa and llvm, I unmasked mesa-18.1.5 and emerged it. On running "emerge --depclean", llvm-5.0.2 was uninstalled leaving llvm-6.0.1 in place. A subsequent "emerge world" did not try to install any llvm version.

...and I still have no idea why I need llvm in the first place! :-)

I believe it is used for building mesa.
