Hi,

I wonder if someone could help me out on an install issues. I know the Dec Alpha is an older architecture, but I thought it would be interesting to bring up the system running Gentoo. I'm using the Minimal CD for Alpha. The system boots up using the Gentoo alpha cd; however, it kernel panics on /dev/ram0. Actual error message below:
"VFS: Cannot open root device device "ram0" or unknown-block(0,0): error -6"

The system has 64MB RAM, SCSI CDROM, SCSI Harddrive (~14GB).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert
P.S. I happen to have 10 DEC Alpha Miltia systems, which I brought few years back and they been taking up space. There in the original DEC box, have the vertical stand mount, and a DEC mouse pad.

Some deeper hardware info?

How was the kernel configured?

Try to configure the kernel without initrd.
