So I was recently using i3 and startx from a TTY but it was getting quite tedious so I decided I wanted to use SLiM. For high dpi scaling to work correctly in i3 in my experience I have had to set the X server DPI and then set the GTK and Qt scaling variables. Before using SLiM adding "export GDK_SCALE=2" in my .zshrc was sufficient. However this no longer works - for GTK apps to scale I have to export the variable manually after login and then launch them from the VT in which I do so. I figured this might be a problem with SLiM using bash so I created a .bashrc with the variable which didn't help. I also tried changing SLiM config to use zsh which then didn't allow me to login at all! Any suggestions? |

You could define your environment variables in '~/.xinitrc' or '~/.xsession'.
See: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/SLiM
BTW: Is the SLiM project still alive? Wikipedia says: 'As of March, 2016, SLiM seems to be abandoned.' |
