Article

Quote:
THE Philippines has vowed to give free guns to members of the public — so long as they promise to use them to fight drugs and crime.

The Sun reports, President Rodrigo Duterte said he’s considering arming 42,000 community leaders, known as barangay captains, after consulting with the police and intelligence agency.

Martin Dino, the interior department undersecretary responsible for barangays, said handguns would be provided for free, or private purchases subsidised, but only for those not involved in illegal drugs.

I love it.

If they're just handing them out to carry, I'm a little worried about negligent discharges. Do they have to demonstrate any level of proficiency?

No article I've found gets into specifics, also most articles are coming from less than reputable sources with (let's say) more than just a little bias.

I'd imagine there's some training involved, but I have no sources to back it up either way.

Meanwhile we're stopping the purchase of knives

What about forks, they're dangerous too - or how about gardening implements, old JB was busy digging up an old rose bush today and ahs to use a variety of lethal tools to accomplish the job.

I could have gone postal.

Seriously! Rapiers only have 1 point. A Fork has 4 points of pokey deadliness! Something must be done now!

Corrosives are interesting - does that cover bases too ? What about good old caustic soda, horrible stuff - luddy good at clearing blockages.
