If I'd have wanted Greek weather, I'd have gone to Greece - I want me soggy damp weather back.

I'm in southeastern US, and we've had temps just about at 37C here for the last week.

Today, was 3 degF shy of a full 40C. (Yes, I know I'm mixing temp grades here - we actually use F here, and it was friggin 101 - and 104 F = 40 C...)

You're not alone, John-Boy....

They're worried that the UK might not cope if the weather continues around 30c

I'm not joking: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44609502

Why does the US still use Fahrenheit?

Because we love to use units of measure that make science nearly impossible, apparently.

It's sad because we just keep indoctrinating the young on these units that should only exist in history books.

What I still don't understand is why are most speed limits and distance signs in the UK in miles?!?!? When I was last there driving I was VERY confused, especially given that the speed limit signs are just round little signs with a number and no indication for certain that it is even a speed limit -- much less what unit of measure it is in. Before I ever visited the UK I drove a fair amount in Canada and was used to kilometers (for distance and speed).

In a land that is using Celsius and the metric system pretty thoroughly why this strange deviation? Care to answer that mystery for me?

To give you something to feel superior. Lord knows, you losers on that side of the pond need something.

Why do brits drive on the left side of the road? You do realize just about everyone else in the flippin' universe drives on the right.

Also, Fahrenheit is more precise for measuring environmental temperatures with whole numbers. For example, as I type it is 69 degrees outside. That is 20.5556 degrees C. I would rather answer: It is 69 degrees out dear, no need for a jacket, than It's 20.5556 out dear, no need for a jacket as you prepare to drive on the wrong flippin' side of the road.

Wanna swap? It's 23C here, pushing too close to lady thermostat territory for me.

We use Fahrenheit, most of the world uses Celsius / Centigrade (and actually, even in Academia in the US, we use Celsius / Centigrade. Particularly above the bachelors level - my Master (Biotechnology) thesis was required to use Celsius for publication, as well as the papers I authored / co-authored. A good read on that - https://sciencing.com/countries-use-celsius-8077428.html

We drive on the right side, as do a lot of other countries (162 of them) but there are 76 countries that drive on the left side. That's about a 65:35 percentage ratio.

But Old School is correct in that, though the percentage by country seems close to 2:1, it's actually way crazier - the 76 countries that are LHT only account for about 1/6 of the total land mas in the world. In addition, it's, again, Brits vs French, according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-_and_right-hand_traffic - but the really interesting thing is that if India were to switch to RHT, then most of the world's population would also be driving on RHT.

Now mph vs kph is really interesting - according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miles_per_hour#Road_traffic very, very few people of the world use mph - the vast majority are used to seeing kph.

I'd dream of 23c, it's certainly hotter than that in Brum.

I'm down to me underpants at the moment.

Nah, wouldn't do that whilst surfing OTW - there is decorum - I'm presently in a thong.
