Pretty self explanatory. Festival returns "Segmentation fault" for any tts operation. There doesn't seem to be any logfile to point me in the right direction either. The specific build is app-accessibility/festival-2.1-r1::gentoo and I'm running the gentoo-4.9.95 kernel.

If anybody has any idea of a fix or advice on how to get more useful information about this issue then it would be very much appreciated.

Recognizing that this bug has been documented since October of 2017, festival was working up until a few weeks ago (when I updated my system). Wish that I knew what brought it on specifically though...

Any suggestions for an alternative to festival?

Perhaps the bug reporter is on testing, you are on stable, and the problem is provoked by an ebuild that recently moved from testing (where he could have hit it months ago) to stable (where you can only just recently hit it). Neither you nor the bug reporter provided full emerge --info, so this is only speculation.

Rather than abandon the package, why not fix it? The bug report traceback was created without debug symbols, which substantially limits its usefulness. Since you are affected, you could rebuild the relevant packages with debug symbols and generate a better traceback. If you cannot fix the problem yourself, you could at least report it upstream with the full debug traceback and hope that the author can resolve the problem.
