Is it worth to buy a laptop with i7 + nvidia video card?
It seems you cannot use all functions you can achieve on MS.
In my case I cannot use HDMI at all.

It's a very sit.

Thanks.
Andrea

If you want to run Linux, don't get nVidia, end of. Although their hardware is undeniably high-quality, nVidia is a toxic company with zero support for the open source community. Linus Torvalds dropped an F-bomb on them, and for good reason.

As for hybrid graphics with nVidia GPUs specifically, I have yet to hear any positive stories about that. It's broken by design, on Linux. If you have the misfortune of being stuck on a laptop with nVidia hybrid graphics, you have three options: (1) disable the integrated GPU and let the dedicated GPU drain your battery like a thirsty whore, (2) disable the dedicated GPU and be stuck with the shitty integrated one, or (3) suck it up and use a broken hybrid graphics system anyway. In all three cases, you won't get anywhere near the bang for your buck that you would on Windoze.

My advice: either stick with Intel HD Graphics/AMD APU if you don't want to use your laptop for gaming at all, or get a laptop with an AMG GPU (they're rare, but they exist -- I'm typing this from an HP ZBook 17 G4 with a Radeon Pro WX 4170!).

I'll gift my father with my new notebook, and I gift myself with a newest nVidia-free one.
Sadly leaving my beloved HP.

I wish you good luck and hope to hear more about the experience you get. Always fun knowing these things in the vast differences in the domain of laptops and linux
