I have www-misc/zoneminder-1.30.4 installed and the web management site works but the service doesn't start.
The previous version www-misc/zoneminder-1.30.2-r1 that I had worked without issue.
The command that the init script runs (/usr/bin/zmpkg.pl) exits with the return code of 255.
The log files in /var/log/zm are empty.
Does anyone have any idea of how to figure out what is going on?
I'm been dealing with this issue for a month or two now and I have no idea what is wrong.

I peeked at the ebuild and noticed it will warn you about upgrading your database when you upgrade zoneminder. Did you notice that message and did you do that?
Code:
                if ! version_is_at_least ${PV} ${v}; then
elog "You have upgraded zoneminder and may have to upgrade your database now using the 'zmupdate.pl' script."
                fi

Have you tried anything else to diagnose, like maybe?
Code:
# systemctl status zoneminder

It appears I missed that message and I did not do that as after running zmupdate.pl to upgrade the database, zoneminder now starts up.
Thanks for your help.
