Hello,
The issue is I'm working on Xfce4 and suddenly I'm presented with the login screen with all my applications terminated and my work lost. This happens about once a day now, and I can't establish a relation with any other event, app running..., very frustrating
I've been suffering this problem for many months now. I've been posting essencially the same question but with different data, as the issue evolves.
So, now I think I pinpointed it to this:
Code: | May 30 10:52:48 mypc sddm-helper[11737]: pam_unix(sddm:session): session closed for user myuser
May 30 10:52:48 mypc kernel: elogind[7645]: Got message type=method_call sender=:1.102 destination=org.freedesktop.login1 object=/org/freedesktop/login1 interface=org.freedesktop.login1.Manager member=ReleaseSession cookie=2 reply_cookie=0 error-name=n/a error-message=n/a
May 30 10:52:48 mypc kernel: elogind[7645]: Sent message type=method_call sender=n/a destination=org.freedesktop.DBus object=/org/freedesktop/DBus interface=org.freedesktop.DBus member=GetConnectionUnixUser cookie=141 reply_cookie=0 error-name=n/a error-message=n/a
May 30 10:52:48 mypc kernel: elogind[7645]: Got message type=method_return sender=org.freedesktop.DBus destination=:1.2 object=n/a interface=n/a member=n/a cookie=40 reply_cookie=141 error-name=n/a error-message=n/a
May 30 10:52:48 mypc kernel: elogind[7645]: Sent message type=method_return sender=n/a destination=:1.102 object=n/a interface=n/a member=n/a cookie=142 reply_cookie=2 error-name=n/a error-message=n/a
May 30 10:52:48 mypc kernel: elogind[7645]: Electing new display for user myuser
May 30 10:52:48 mypc kernel: elogind[7645]: Ignoring session 4
May 30 10:52:48 mypc kernel: elogind[7645]: Removed session 4.
May 30 10:52:48 mypc kernel: elogind[7645]: Sent message type=signal sender=n/a destination=n/a object=/org/freedesktop/login1 interface=org.freedesktop.login1.Manager member=SessionRemoved cookie=143 reply_cookie=0 error-name=n/a error-message=n/a |
The line before the first happens one minute before and it's a firewall block, so I don't think it is related.
I've tried slim, sddm, lightdm and it makes no difference.
Anyone can give me a clue why and how the session is being closed? Would it help uninstalling elogind? I think it can be replaced by consolekit which I'm not using, true?
Thank you in advance for any tips.

Thank you for jumping in.

Actually not because that would mean one or more days staring at the screen, waiting for the thing to happen, without being able to perform any work because my applications and data are not there. As I said, I couldn't establish a cause-effect relation up to this moment.
Any other ideas?
Thank you,

It happening again a while ago, with a difference: I had logged in with "nox" in kernel parameters, so no DM, changed to VT6 and startx.
I was working on firefox, I think, and suddenly the console shows-up with a few Xorg lines, I think it was the log-on messages, and apparently frozen to the keyboard, didn't even change VT with ctrl-alt-F1 (or F2 to F6). Then I pressed the on/off button that I have linked to poweroff through acpi, and it did in fact poweroff.

Look at the first row, the segfault. Is this relevant?
I know what the unhandled acpi events are. The volume buttons are handled elsewhere but I never disconnected the acpi event/action, but it does nothing and I think don't hurt.
The last message is when I pressed the poweroff.
Any clues?
TIA,
