Code:
[blocks B      ] sys-apps/systemd ("sys-apps/systemd" is blocking sys-fs/eudev-3.2.5)
[blocks B      ] sys-apps/gentoo-systemd-integration ("sys-apps/gentoo-systemd-integration" is blocking sys-fs/eudev-3.2.5)
[blocks B      ] sys-fs/eudev ("sys-fs/eudev" is blocking sys-apps/systemd-238-r6, sys-apps/gentoo-systemd-integration-7)

I've tried re-emerging systemd with --exclude=sys-fs/eudev and it's still throwing the same error.

My package.use file doesn't make any mention of the above packages so I don't think that is the cause. My package.mask and package.unmask files are both empty and I'm at a loss as to what could be the cause. If you have any ideas/suggestions for me to try let me know - thanks!

systemd and eudev are mutually exclusive, so the blockage is a right-and-proper symptom of a misconfiguration. Which profile are you using? Use
Code:
eselect profile show
to find out.

Also check to see if you have eudev installed:
Code:
equery list -i eudev

Note that equery is part of app-portage/gentoolkit. Emerge that if you need to.

a9p6,

sys-apps/systemd ("sys-apps/systemd" is blocking sys-fs/eudev-3.2.5 is because both provide some of the same functionality.
The eudev is provided in the default stage3, although, there is a systemd stage three, if that's what you need.

I suspect that you have selected a profile that depends on systemd. That would be any profile with gnome in its name or with systemd in its name.

There is a process on the wiki for doing the eudev to systemd switch if that's what you need.
The other option is to select a different profile.

What a silly mistake. You are absolutely right about the profile being the cause. I recently switched my profile from 17.0/kde-plasma (systemd) to 17.0/stable without realizing I hadn't selected the (systemd) variant. I just made this update and as soon as I did, my system was able to merge the updates. Thanks a ton for the help!
