Epson Perfection V39 and Gentoo

Hello everyone.
Here is the thing. I can't make my scanner Epson V39 to work on gentoo. And the driver on Portage seems very old (not sure if it's the reason though).

So, simple question, but not necessarily a simple answer... Does anyone have a solution to make this scanner work on Gentoo?! I did make it work once but with a dirty trick, and it stopped working after my last update. Of course I don't remember what I did (but I do remember it was very ugly, like taking files from an Ubuntu version and putting them manually in my /usr folder), and I don't want to use this trick again so.... Any ideas?

Did you try media-gfx/iscan?
It's ~amd64 though.
It has iscan-data as a dependency.

Yes, that's what I talked about when I said that the driver on Portage is probably too old.

Loacoon,

It pulls in the latest Epson binary blob.

It work for me with a V600 and the epkowa backend, which is not configured in sane.

Check that /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf has the usb line uncommented.
You might need to populate the

I've already done it. It doesn't work, the scanner doesn't even start and is not recognised.

About the driver, Gentoo pulls the 2.30 version but it's in V3 on the Epson website (latest version from April 10th). But I didn't find a convincing way to install the driver on the website....

After some research it looks like the V39 needs GT-S650 plugin which is not provided by Gentoo. Still trying to figure out how to make it work though...

Ok, I've managed to make it work by putting the plugin and firmware where they belong and registering the scanner with iscan-registry.
Still a dirty thing to do though. Any plans on adding the GT-S650 plugin on Portage?

I suspect you can adapt one of the existing iscan plug ebuilds.
The one I looked at fetches a tarball from a gentoo devs webspace though, so its not ideal.

Old topic...but any foolproof way to get the V39 working since then? If not, Loacoon, could you please give some more details?
