Hi,
I have system without PulseAudio nor Apulse. FF 58 works correctly. But after upgrade to FF 59 no more sound.
Only these messages in console:

Code:

[Child 5661, MediaPlayback #1] WARNING: 7fbbdd0f3940 OpenCubeb() failed to init cubeb: file /var/tmp/portage/www-client/firefox-59.0.2/work/mozilla-release-239e434d6d2b8e1e2b697c3416d1e96d48fe98e5/dom/media/AudioStream.cpp, line 387

I've searched the Internet, but it seems there were no changes in alsa subsystem.

Code:

$ emerge -pv firefox

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Great. It works. Thanks.

I've checked bugs yesterday evening and there was nothing. I forgot to check this morning.

Epic fix, thanks! Firefox appeared to be silent but locked up the entire sound system. Then I found that it was outputting to my Corsair headphones -- where my .asoundrc sets up a composite device between that and my onboard sound, with dmix for both.

I was super-lucky to end up here and see your link to the bug report. Thanks again (: Hopefully there will be some automagick in the future to avoid the user confusion ^_^
