This was working properly before updating samba. Thhe only log lines in /etc/samba/smb.conf are: Code: | log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 50
| /var/log/messages is filling up with junk like: Code: | Apr 26 21:18:40 MSI nmbd[4462]: [2018/04/26 21:18:40.813664, 0] ../source3/nmbd/nmbd_namequery.c:109(query_name_response)
Apr 26 21:18:40 MSI nmbd[4462]: query_name_response: Multiple (2) responses received for a query on subnet 192.168.0.104 for name GREENGABLES<1d>.
Apr 26 21:18:40 MSI nmbd[4462]: This response was from IP 192.168.0.102, reporting an IP address of 192.168.0.102.
| Repeated over and over.
GREENGABLES is the LAN name. samba-4.7.7 |

Do you have a line that states "logging = file"?
Anyway, we need to see the output of:
Code: |
$ testparm -slv | grep log
|
testparm -slv shows you all settings that are in use including defaults and passing it through "grep log" helps cover today's conundrum. |

Reverted to 4.5.16 and all is well.
Sorry for the late reply. I've been out of town and just got back. |
