After an update to conky this morning to app-admin/conky-1.10.8, conky would no longer run, complaining about an unexpected '#' at .conkyrc:2

Searching the Internet led me to /usr/share/doc/conky-1.10.8/convert.lua.bz2

Note: I suggest backing up your .conkyr.)

Following my nose, I ran as root:
Code:
cp convert.lua.bz2 /home/[user]/
cd /home/[user]
bunzip2 convert.lua.bz2
chmod 755 convert.lua
lua convert.lua .conkyrc

Finally, I ran conky as the user from the shell and it works fine. I re-bzip2 /usr/share/doc/conky-1.10.8/convert.lua.bz2
Your mileage may vary. I hope this helps somebody. Supposedly, according to info I found on the Internet, ./convert.lua should have just run, but it did not. I had to invoke lua with the additional options noted above.

Thank you, Andy. This is not the first time that I've found your posts helpful!

You guys must have been using an older version of conky, they changed the config file format quite some time back.

Cheers
