Currently installing Gentoo again full systemd for that is the future. I kind of see it this way:

"Hey guys, there's this dude named Sauron --he's really cool, and he gave me this ring to wear called systemd. He's giving them away to any who wants one!"

Maybe I should change my hostname to mordor?

Anyway, this old dog trying to learn new tricks is having some issues but I'm getting there. I read the handbook page and here are my thoughts. Now, I've been using Gentoo awhile, years,
so I say this with humor. Gentoo is my home and I'm sticking with it. I cannot use anything else. It's gotta be Gentoo!

What the handbook says is happening
1 The user is in a working environment ready to install Gentoo.
2 The Internet connection is ready to install Gentoo.
3 The hard disks are initialized to host the Gentoo installation.
4 The installation environment is prepared and the user is ready to chroot into the new environment.
5 Core packages, which are the same on all Gentoo installations, are installed.
6 The Linux kernel is installed.
7 The user will have configured most of the Gentoo system configuration files.
8 The necessary system tools are installed.
9 The proper boot loader has been installed and configured.
10 The freshly installed Gentoo Linux environment is ready to be explored.

What also is happening
1. The user crosses fingers, takes a big breath, and hopes it goes smoothly
2. The user hopes the connection holds and does not forget to emerge dhcpcd
3. The user frantically checks and rechecks fstab and makes sure the "on" flag is set for the boot drive
4. The user wonders, "I hope I did not forget something...."
5. The user stares agape as gibberish scrolls down the screen
6. The user feels like having birthed a thistle from the rectum
7. The user hopes, prays, crosses fingers, throws salt over the shoulder hoping it went the way it was supposed to
8. The user watches more gibberish scroll down the screen
9. The user trembles and shakes with flashbacks of "KERNEL PANIC -- YOU SCREWED UP"
10. The user has a skeleton system to "explore" so emerges packages and watches gibberish scroll down the screen for hours
11. After two or three days, the user has a system that works. A great sigh of relief is exhaled and there is joy in Mudville
12. The user quakes with fear, hesitating before typing "emerge --update --deep --newuse @world
13. A kernel upgrade! User curses impotently, then births another thistle from the rectum. Sure is gettin' sore down there
14 Looks like we made it <queue Barry Manilow song>
15 What's that? A major package upgrade and another kernel upgrade? Uh....
16 Expletive deleted

This is how my existence goes with Gentoo, but it is all good, goes with the territory.
