|
|
I have an odd issue in Plasma. This has been happening since the release of Plasma, so it may be my setup. When you plug in a USB drive, insert a CD/DVD, whatever, the notifier pops up witht he option to open the device in Dolphin, but if I try this, I am told I do not have permissions to mount the device. However, if I open Dolphin and click on the device there, it opens right up. In fact, if I attempted to mount via notifier first, it opens two windows, not one. My user is in all of the common groups, such as audio, video, usb, scanner, lp, users, games, dialout, netdev, plugdev, floppy, cdrom, disk, tape, cdrw, sshd, vboxusers, and wheel. What gives?
*UPDATE*
The solution can be found here. _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"?

I'd rather not mess with policy kit files and was hoping there would be a better fix by now. As stated in that thread, the problem has existed for years. It is a bug with the notifier sicne I can easily go into Dolphin and access said devices. This is why I do not wish to edit policy kit files. I have access, the notifier does not see said access and tells me incorrectly that I am not authorized. I was hoping that, in all these years, there would have been a fix created for the notifier. Policy kit is working, so I am just not going to edit it. _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |

The problem only exists with consolekit, and this is going to be fixed by switching to elogind instead. |

I won't switch to systemd, so I am assuming that elogind is the Gentoo, systemd-free version of logind, right? If so, is there any kind of ETA on it? I mean KDE6 may be out first and then consolekit should be fine, assuming the bug is fixed. Being a tad sarcastic there. I just feel it's silly that all these years after Plasma is out this bug still exists. Not blaming anybody, just seems strange to have it around this long. _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |

Yes is logind extracted as standalone.

I'm not sure if I undestand what means ETA (Estimated Time to Arrival?), but elogind is already here (thanks to Yamakuzure) in stable branch. You can swith following wiki page _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

I may try this on the next Gentoo desktop install I do. Thanks for the information. _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |

Thanks, wjb, but that is not the issue. It just flat-out denies permission. I am going to try elogind next time and see what happens. _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |

OK, switching to elogind after the kernel update followed by system update did indeed fix the issue. Just tested it. Now, is it possible to make Plasma run on two potatoes in serial? _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |
