Hello,

First go at getting a working Gentoo system going - I'm working on a VirtualBoxVM with a single CPU at the moment trying to build an x86 system.

The emerge profile I'm trying to use is:
Code:
default/linux/x86/17.0/desktop/gnome (stable)

When attempting to update using this profile it fails when compiling sys-libs/timezone-data-2017c, the errors are as follows,
The specific error line:
Code:
strftime.c:122:5: error: unknown type name 'locale_t'
     locale_t locale)
     ^~~~~~~~

And the support output:
Code:

Portage 2.3.13 (python 3.5.4-final-0, default/linux/x86/17.0/desktop/gnome, gcc-6.4.0, uclibc-ng-1.0.26, 4.9.76-gentoo-r1 i686)

Here's my current portage makefile too:
Code:

# These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically

# Please consult /usr/share/portage/config/make.conf.example for a more
# detailed example.
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686"

CHOST="i686-gentoo-linux-uclibc"
# These are the USE flags that were used in addition to what is provided by the
# profile used for building.
USE="bindist -consolekit -colord"
PORTDIR="/usr/portage"
DISTDIR="${PORTDIR}/distfiles"
PKGDIR="${PORTDIR}/packages"

GENTOO_MIRRORS="rsync://gentoo.gossamerhost.com/gentoo-distfiles/ http://gentoo.gossamerhost.com rsync://mirrors.tera-byte.com/gentoo http://gentoo.mirrors.tera-byte.com/ ftp://mirrors.tera-byte.com/pub/gentoo ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/gentoo-distfiles/ http://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/gentoo-distfiles/"

I was running into some circular dependency issues I was working through hence my current USE flags. I tried Googling this too but wasn't finding anything specific to the 2017 timezone data.

Thanks for any input on the matter :D

uclibc-ng is a special-purpose libc. If you are using Gentoo for the first time, this is probably not what you want to use. It can be made to work, but you will have an easier time using glibc.

Ah, fair enough - tried the standard stage3 and I'm off to the races. Thanks!
