Well, the Wikipage is empty, no discussion either.

Whats up with vmware on Gentoo, something shady, or perhaps fatal.
I can add the overlay and am going to try install player, but don't have a clue about use flags or likewise.

Im using vmware-player from vmware overlay.
It just starts without any messages (/opt/vmware/bin/vmplayer) or via menu.

How are u even starting it ? Why another problem is calling for it (Calling: "/opt/vmware/bin/vmplayer")

I checked and for me /opt/vmware/bin/vmplayer is symlink to -> /opt/vmware/lib/vmware/bin/vmplayer. And its binary file not some script. No idea where your "apploader" logs come from.

libdir entry was not present in /etc/vmware/config

maybe you should put that in there (at least, that should
be an easy fix to get started)

for reference here is my (working) /etc/vmware/config file

Quote:
bindir = "/opt/vmware/bin"
libdir = "/opt/vmware/lib/vmware"
initscriptdir = "/etc/init.d"
authd.fullpath = "/opt/vmware/sbin/vmware-authd"
gksu.rootMethod = "su"
VMCI_CONFED = "yes"
VMBLOCK_CONFED = "yes"
VSOCK_CONFED = "yes"
NETWORKING = "yes"
player.product.version = "12.5.9"
product.buildNumber = "7535481"
