I am currently using a product that displays gentoo.org within the startup. It is Universal Purge Tool. I need a new copy, preferably one that is for AMD 64 or at least X64. (At this point I'll even take the X32 download...) I can NOT find any reference to its download online anywhere. The only mention of it directly that I find is a conference or something where it was discussed by the US Army in Fort Gordon Ga, and it being listed as Authorized Software by the US Army. I have looked high and low, maybe my google skills lack...but I can't find anything on it. Does anybody have any clue where I can find a download for this product?

Edit: This is a Disk wipe tool that overwrites the disk. It is supposed to meet Army Standards, but can be used in a custom mode where you select the number of passes you want to make on the disk. Once done, the disk is usable as a blank disk.

Never heard of it, and Gentoo certainly has nothing to do with downstream products like this. Just use DBAN if you need more paranoia than a ATA secure erase provides.

If it is truly based on Gentoo, odds are it contains at least one bit of GPL-covered software. If it does, then it should have come with source or a written offer for the source. If it came with the latter, you could use that to track down who maintains it.

Or use the secure deletion tools on SystemRescueCd:
