[SOLVED] VLC fails to play videos - freetype spu text error

Hi all,

Since very recently (since vlc-3) I can't play videos with vlc anymore. When running it from the terminal I get the following error message:

I recently updated and downgraded the freetype package, see this thread, but the problem has existed before and after the update/downgrade.

Any idea what the problem is?

I updated an rebuilt vlc several times, with no improvements.

You can't play any video type?

There are millions of codecs and I didn't test all of them. But I can't play any of the videos that I have (including avi, mp4, and mkv types encoded mostly with h264 and h265).

Maybe turn fontconfig on? Just guessing.

Thanks! Indeed, this fixed the freetype spu error. However, the other two errors remain:

Great question! I used "automatic". When changing to "openGL" things work again. Thanks!
